Wallarah 2 Coal Project received approval on 18th January 2019 from the Federal Minister for the Environment under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC). The CASAR Park racetrack application to Wyong Council was publicly exhibited in August and Wallarah 2 lodged a submission in support of the proposal. The racetrack and the surface facilities for Wallarah 2 are noted to be compatible developments.

Should appropriate resolution of the mine’s access to the Main North Rail Line be reached to enable Wallarah 2 to be approved and constructed, great opportunities can open up for favourable synergies between the two projects. For example, Wallarah 2 could assist CASAR Park with a future (and superior) road access from the south, possible employment and training linkages, and Wallarah 2 will be providing water, sewer and power connections to the Tooheys Rd precinct.

FEB 2014 - EMPLOYMENT AT WALLARAH 2

We are currently going through the NSW Government Approval process which we are expecting to be finalised in mid 2014. Assuming the project receives approval, there will be a mine construction period of 3 years before longwall operations commence. Due to the long lead time before coal extraction occurs, we are not taking resumes at this early stage but please keep an eye on this website and local newspapers for project and employment updates.

We look forward to Wallarah 2 being a major employer on the Central Coast in the near future.

JAN 2014 - WALLARAH 2 EXPANDS ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING ACTIVITIES

Wallarah anticipates that this year will be focused heavily on planning and assessments, undertaking multilevel contractual activities in anticipation of the $850 million three year construction phase of the Project.

At the end of 2013 Wallarah 2 commenced an extension to its thorough groundwater management program, installing four new deep water monitoring bores.

Utilising the latest in innovative Vibrating Wire Piezometers, these bores will offer further comprehensive environmental monitoring data, in line with Wallarah’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

News – 2013

DEC 2013 - AN UPDATE ON THE PROJECT

2013 was an important year for Wallarah 2 as it moved into the next phase of the approval process administered by the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

In the latter part of 2013 Wallarah meticulously reviewed all submissions received during the public exhibition process and provided detailed responses via the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

Wallarah 2 now awaits an Assessment Report from the Department and advice as to a possible public hearing and a review of the Project by the NSW Planning Assessment Commission (PAC).

The PAC is independent of the NSW Government, the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure and the Department of Planning and Infrastructure and provides independent expert advice to the Minister on planning and development matters.

It is expected that draft consent conditions should be received in the first quarter of 2014.

JUL 2013 - WALLARAH 2 ASSISTS LOCAL CHARITY

Wallarah 2 is pleased to be supporting Community Advocates, a locally run, not for profit charity servicing the Central Coast. Wallarah 2 provide Community Advocates a dedicated area where they can safely store stock to be used across their programs, which provide practical assistance to those in need in the community.

The MOUs are part of the the ongoing development of the vocational training stream of the Wallarah Community Foundation.

With the support of W2CP, Central Coast Group Training will provide apprentices in the electrical/automotive/engineering trades to partnered host businesses within the Wyong Local Government Area.

Specifically it will include two school based apprentices from Wyong Trade High School and two full time apprentices sourced from the local community.

TAFE Hunter Institute will offer training and related services to Wallarah and its clients.
